Ombre Trinket Box Upcycle

So my mom is getting ready to make the big move from my home town to my current town! Ombre Box - DIY box makeover. See how @ shescraftyllc.com.I’m super excited to have her close, as are my littles. We’ve been helping Grammy look for a new place to live; but with that comes cleaning out the old to get ready to sell. So in the clean out process, we came across some goodies she was going to place in the garage sale, that is before I swiped them up for an upcycle project! That’s where this gem came from.

I was just looking to make a simple change to it, so of course that required some paint! Once I got going I was annoyed by the whole in the top. It’s for hanging the box on the wall, but really, I wasn’t digging that, so instead I decided to add a peg in that spot to hold bracelets, hair ties, or whatever you choose.

The How

There’s not really too much How-To for this project. Basically I decided I wanted to do an Ombre effect since there were so many boxes (I did think about rainbow for a bit). So I found a purple paint and then got 5 dixie cups and added a little white, then a little more, and a little more…you get the point. :-) I painted it and sealed it with spray sealer (it was just easier than Mod Podge, but that’s what I usually use to seal things). Then came the search for what to use as the peg in the top and I found a wooden paint brush that was the perfect size, so I chopped it off and glued it in using some wood glue. Then I painted it to match (I thought of it after I had already painted the box) and there you have it. A fun Ombre trinket box, perfect for a purple fan!

  1. LOVE how this turned out! The purple ombre is so pretty! And I really like how you add the little peg at the top.
